SMART Modelling Tool Optimises Completion Design

Lucid has developed a SMART well completion modelling tool using Petroleum Experts’ GAP software. The tool was developed to enable a Perth based client to assess the impact of various water and gas coning scenarios along their proposed horizontal wells. The well designs include Weatherford’s inflow control device (ICD) screens. The screens include a number of ports that can be installed either open on blocked to control the flow of reservoir fluids into the completion. The Lucid developed modelling tool assesses the optimum port configuration for each screen section based on the reservoir scenario. GAP modelling is conventionally for production networks but its functionality lends itself to modelling complex down-hole completions. The new modelling tool uses OpenServer functionality to build well models and quickly change reservoir input parameters when assessing a large number of reservoir scenarios.
